Swap Shop

The Swap Shop is a place where you may leave or take reusable household items.

(No TVs, Microwaves, Computer Monitors, AC's, Refrigerators, Dehumidifiers, Chemicals, Food or food products, Large or Wooden Furniture).

At all times, items to be left off at the Swap Shop are subject to approval of the attendant on duty. Items must be in at least fair and reusable condition. Appliances and other bulky items may be subject to the normal fee for those items. Proof of residency in Wellfleet will be required.

You must have a valid Wellfleet Transfer Station Sticker to access the Swap Shop. You may not leave any items outside of the Swap Shop when it is not open.

Hours of Operation are Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. to Noon.

Items Accepted

Mixed Paper and Cardboard

Please breakdown your cardboard so that it is flat.

Bulky Rigid Plastics

5 gallon buckets (clean), plastic toys, etc.

Plastic Containers and Tins

Please keep caps on plastic items.

Scrap Metal

Glass (all colors mixed together)

Bottles and jars should be empty. Remove corks and lids. No plate glass, lightbulbs, glassware, Pyrex.

Food Waste

Residential food waste only.

Aluminum Cans

Batteries

only these battery types: LiIon, NiCad/NiMH, Lead Acid

Bicycles

Bicycles do not need to be in working condition.

Boat Shrink Wrap

Shrink wrap should be clean and dry. Remove all rope, strapping, wood frames, doors, zippers, and other non-shrink material. Bundle shrink wrap and tie it using a strip of shrink wrap. Ends June 30th.

Books

The Friends of the Wellfleet Library will accept, with thanks, your used high-quality books at the book shed at the Wellfleet Transfer Station. Tuesdays 11:00-12:00 Saturdays 11:00-12:00 However, you can still recycle books in the BLUE bin in front of the library shed labeled BOOKS. These books are resold or recycled by Discover Books at no charge to the Town.

Carpeting

we accept rolls of used carpeting; no pads

Electronics

computers, laptops, cell phones, TVs (fees may apply), cables, etc.

Eyeglasses

Eyeglasses brought to the Recycling Center will be re-used by those in need.

Fire Extinguishers

Fire extinguishers do not need to be empty when dropped off.

Furniture

all furniture should be 'donation' quality

Hearing Aids

Hearing Aids brought to the Recycling Center will be re-used by those in need.

Light Bulbs

We accept fluorescent and compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) only.

Manure

Put the manure in the covered containers.

Marine Debris

Test. Marine debris includes fishing nets, traps and other items found in the ocean.

Mattresses

$20 fee per mattress. The mattresses you bring to the recycling center will be deconstructed into their various components (wood, fiber, metal).

Textiles

Textiles can be placed in the white Bay State Textiles trailer or the Salvation Army Bin, both located next to the Swap Shop. The Town is receiving $100/ton for the items going into the Bay State Textiles trailer.  Items donated to the Salvation Army are removed free of charge. On November 1st, 2022, MassDEP added textiles to its waste ban. This means textiles cannot be put into the trash and must be placed into one of the textile collections.

Construction and Demolition Debris

Construction & Demolition debris includes concrete, lumber, roofing shingles, etc.

Yard Waste Grass and Leaves

Grass clippings and leaves only.

Yard Waste Brush

Brush only. Cut any limbs in 4 foot segments.
